About the Space

Situated overlooking the Kennebec River and just a stone’s throw from downtown Hallowell, our rooms and apartments offer easy access to trails and nature as well as live music and great restaurants. The City of Augusta is located just two miles away.

The Hallowell Historic Rooming House and Old School House were built in the 1850s by the first proprietors of the Cotton Mill, which is located on the same block and is not senior housing. At one time the entire block was under the same ownership. Workers and those with business at the mill stayed at the Hallowell House. Children who worked at the mill attended school at the Old School House. It was the first intermediate school in Hallowell. The Hallowell House now offers seven rooms with private bathrooms, a shared, fully stocked kitchen, a media room with power recliners and a large screen TV, a balcony with sweeping views of the Kennebec River, an outside, year-round hot tub, a Finnish sauna and full, 24/7 gym. Complimentary bikes are avaialable to use on the Kennebec River Rail Trail and complimentary kayaks, paddleboards and rafts can be used on the Kennebec River. The Old School House offeres two apartments each with 1.5 bathrooms and 2-3 bedrooms, and each with a private deck. They also have access to the hot tub, sauna, bicycles, kayaks, etc. The loft apartment at the Widow Avery House is just around the corner features a large bedroom, living area with kitchenette, full bathroom and private hot tub and patio area.
