The Hallowell Historic Rooming House and Old School House, constructed in the 1850s by the original owners of the nearby Cotton Mill, have a rich history. Originally part of the same property, the Rooming House accommodated mill workers while the Old School House served as Hallowell's first intermediate school for children employed at the mill. Today, the Hallowell House offers seven rooms with private bathrooms, a shared fully stocked kitchen, a media room with power recliners and a large screen TV, a balcony with scenic views of the Kennebec River, an outdoor hot tub, Finnish sauna, and a 24/7 gym. Complimentary bikes are available for use on the Kennebec River Rail Trail, and guests can enjoy kayaks, paddleboards, and rafts on the river. The Old School House features two apartments, each with 1.5 bathrooms and 2-3 bedrooms, along with private decks and access to the hot tub, sauna, bicycles, and watercraft. Additionally, the loft apartment at the nearby Widow Avery House offers a spacious bedroom, living area with kitchenette, full bathroom, and a private hot tub and patio area.
Nestled along the banks of the Kennebec River and a short distance from downtown Hallowell, our accommodations boast stunning views and convenient access to local trails, nature spots, vibrant live music scenes, and top-notch dining establishments. Just two miles away lies the bustling city of Augusta, offering additional attractions and amenities for our guests to explore.
